You are not going to have to do as much walking as you will sitting in most cases, so the heavy-duty support isn’t really that necessary. Sandals of flip-flops are great when traveling by air.
You don’t save much space using travel size toiletries and when you run out, the local stores often charge more for products that you need to replace. Try to save space in other ways, like packing more efficiently or eliminating unnecessary items. Using these can help you find some extra space in your luggage.
